Load Child and Parent Style CSS

If you are creating a child theme, you have two choices that load faster than using @import in your child style.css file.

1. You can add the parent style link to the child header.php, just above your normal css link.

// for the parent stylesheet
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?>" media="screen" />
//for the child stylesheet
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php bloginfo( 'stylesheet_url' ); ?>" media="screen" />

2. You can add this to your functions.php file.

add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'my_parent_theme_css' );

function my_parent_theme_css() {
    wp_enqueue_style( 'parent-style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css' );
    wp_enqueue_style( 'child-style', get_stylesheet_uri(), array( 'parent-style' ) );
}
